Brief:
This is a 60 second interstitial aimed at children aged 4-6 years old. This animation is suitable for this age group as it incorporates bright colours, simple recognisable shapes, rhyme, singing and dancing, some funny characters, and most importantly, soft learning. The message being portrayed here is very much one of self-acceptance - we are all different and it is ok to be different because you should take pride in and be true to who you are. The song/poem was heavily inspired by Dr Seuss, whose books are very popular with this age group. We have used the same elements of repetition and simple rhyme to help ease them into learning vocabulary and pronunciation.
My colleague and myself have been working on this project for three months in 2016 at our university.
Synopsis:
Timothy Keith is a little monster who lives alone in his cave. He is scared to go out and play with the other monsters because he is very self conscious of his teeth. One day, a big friendly monster called Mambo finds Timothy crying all alone. Mambo takes Timothy along on a musical adventure through the land of Monstropia, meeting all sorts of different monsters along the way. Timothy soon learns that it is everyone's differences that make them the same. The monsters have a party and Timothy dances and sings with them - he finally feels happy as he has made some friends and learnt to accept himself.
